So I was scrolling through the blogosphere and found this tag on Zezee with Books‘s blog who got it from the YouTube channel, Sam’s Nonsense. As someone who grew up on Nintendo systems, I was so excited to do a mash-up post of two of my favourite things! So here we go!
NES (Nintendo Entertainment System): A classic you want to read.
I was supposed to read Lolita for my American Lit class in university (whoops), but since then I’ve regretted not actually getting to it. That’s probably the next classic I’m going to force myself to read.
SNES (Super Nintendo): A sequel you liked more than the first (can be a second book in a series).
Oooh, this is tricky because I tend to like the first book to everything and then wish it was a stand-alone when the sequel comes out. And I’m not even going to bring Harry Potter up in this one, because that’s sort of a cop-out isn’t it? I’d have to say a sequel I liked better than the first book is Mark of the Plague by Kevin Sands. Such a great read.
Nintendo 64: A book that revolutionized the way you look at the world.
I’m going to have to say 1984 by George Orwell. It was one of the first books I read that got me obsessed with reading, and it was a book that came to be at the right time in my life. I was sort of sheltered as a youth, and I read this book when I was 17 and it made me question everything I knew about life.
GameCube: A popular book that did not go over so well with you.
Okay well I liked the GameCube. But a book that didn’t go over so well with me was Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. I was excited to read a motivational book that talked about how everyone could be an artist and let their creativity out, but that wasn’t the sort of book I’d gotten myself into, and I just couldn’t even finish it. Not enough research, very opinion-based. I like research.
Also, without saying too much – Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Wii: A new favorite book.
Say it with me everyone. GAME. OF. THRONES.
Nintendo Power: Favorite graphic novel series or a series you want to start.
It’s not a series, because I guess I prefer stand-alone graphic novels, but Watchmen is my favourite. If I had to pick a series, I’d say Sandman by Neil Gaiman.
Super Mario: A character that you’d love to squish like a Goomba.
Okay, so I don’t hate characters. Like I don’t read and go “wow this guy is a dick, I wish I could stab him”. I read and if I feel anything strong towards a character, I go “wow this author is fantastic to make me feel so hateful towards someone that is just words on a page”. I dunno, I just read and watch things like I’m the person who made them and I get really impressed by the people who create things.
Zelda: A newer fantasy that you consider to be a modern classic.
Harry Potter? Game of Thrones? Next question?
Samas-Aran: Favorite sci-fi novel or one you want to read.
Here we go! Favourite sci-fi novel. I think I’m going to have to go with Ready Player One. I still can’t get over how much I loved that story, and that world. Ooh, actually, tie for first place is Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Pokemon: Book editions that you want to collect.
I don’t collect books anymore because I’m trying to not waste money and save space.
Donkey Kong: A book with original characters.
A book that I read recently with characters that I went nuts over was The Spectacular Now. Every character was so realistic, and despite the fact that it was a young adult book about kids in high school, I didn’t feel like I’d already read about these characters and their issues. Incredible job, Tim Tharp.
Nintendo Fandom: Favorite Nintendo game(s) or game you really want.
Oh, a question about games! I’m really excited for the new Zelda game 😀
I tag anyone else who loves Nintendo and wants to participate!
