Saturday, July 25, 2015, I was lucky enough to be able to attend the Fourth Annual Ontario Book Blogger Meet-Up. This event is organized by a team of wonderful ladies who all share a passion for reading and blogging, and want to give other book bloggers a place to meet-up in person, have a drink, and exchange their favourite new titles.
I’ve never been to this event before, and had no idea what to really expect, but this was such a great day – I can’t wait to go next year!
Upon entering the Ballroom on John St. downtown Toronto, we were greeted by the team at Book Blog Ontario who provided us with a name tag (complete with Twitter handle) and a swag bag filled with books! Then we were able to make our way down the table for more freebies, and then pick a couple of books up by the authors that would be attending the event! I knew Kevin Sands, whose debut middle-grade fantasy The Blackthorn Key coming out this September, was going to be there, so I was super excited for that!
The event itself was incredible. We were able to chat with fellow bloggers and make new blogger friends, which is always fun. I really enjoyed getting to know people who I’ve chatted with on Twitter but have never gotten the chance to speak with in person (140 characters at a time doesn’t allow for great conversation!), and I also had a great time meeting new bloggers I’d have never otherwise encountered.
We all got to mix and mingle, and talk books over a drink, and try a lot of really delicious foods! I spent a lot of time at this event following new friends on Twitter and snacking on risotto balls.
Besides other bloggers, this event gave a lot of people the opportunity to network with other people in the publishing industry. I got to give my card out to a bunch of people, even one of the authors in attendance, which was exciting!
And as I mentioned above, getting to speak with the authors was really great. They were all so supportive of the blogger community, which makes me want to blog even more, because it goes to show how much authors really appreciate what we do.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited about all the books I was able to get my hands on at this event. Before the actual event, a bunch of bloggers (including myself) posted a list of books in a Google doc that were up for giveaway, and I’ll be honest, I took full advantage of this list. I want to give a huge shout out to everyone who provided me with giveaway books – Christine, Indigo, Hayley, Dani, Michele, Jaclyn, Ashley, and Tiff. Thank you all so much for your super generosity and I really appreciate it!
Above you can see a photo of all of the books I carried home with me that day. I am so excited to read all of these. Thanks to the ladies at Book Blogger Ontario for organizing such a wonderful event and I can’t wait to see everyone next year!
