Top 5 Tuesday: Anime

Final Top 5 Tuesday of #GEEKMONTH! I’ve been taking advantage of this themed month to discuss nerdy things that don’t necessarily relate to books. So if this hasn’t been really up your alley, it’ll all be over next week!

But for now, here are my top 5 animes!

1.

Steins;Gate

This is probably my all-time favourite anime that I’ve watched thus far. I’m a dubber, not a subber, and sometimes I realize that this hurts the show, but I find that without the English voice acting, I wouldn’t like this one as much. Steins;Gate is hilarious, suspenseful, and has a wonderful cast of characters (with great females as well – ones who make Doctor Who references!) I’m not much of a re-watcher, but this one is going to happen in my life really soon.

2.

Psycho Pass

Granted, I’ve only seen the first part of this one, but that’s how much I enjoyed it! I love the possibly-dystopian setting and the action-movie plot with these morally ambiguous questions that they attempt to answer. The first few episodes were a little slow, but once it got started, I was so into it.

3.

Death Note

To me, Death Note is just epic. It’s just that one anime that everyone knows about, even if they don’t like anime. The plot is so stunning, it amazed me how these characters could be locked in such a showdown of wits when I couldn’t anticipate what would happen next. If you’re not watching the show for the characters, or the moral debate, at least watch Death Note for the crazy story.

4.

Ergo Proxy

I need to re-watch Ergo Proxy. I loved Re-L Mayer. I loved the weird dystopian setting and the indescribable events that make you wonder what is really happening and what is all just a metaphor for something bigger. But the first time I watched, I had a little voice in my ear telling me what everything meant, which made it all the more confusing. I have to go through it again and decipher this TV riddle on my own.

5.

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun

If any of these shows don’t fit on this list, it’s clearly this one. The rest are drama, suspense, sci-fi, action, even shows with elements of horror. This one is fully light-hearted, cheesy rom com. And I regret nothing. This is the first show I’ve watched entirely in sub, and it makes this one even better. I love how invested I got in these high school characters and their romantic conquests. If you’re looking for something fun to watch, I really recommend it.

Do you watch anime? Which ones do you recommend?

  1. Death Note is often recommended to me. Everyone seems to like it. Where do you watch anime? So far I access them on Netflix but I’d like to find other sources. I’m quite new to it.
