As soon as I finished Kate Bolick’s Spinster, I knew this book was going to be a big deal for me. You can check out my review on the book here. So when I was invited to celebrate the release of this fantastic title with Random House and the author herself, I knew I couldn’t pass it up.
The event took place in the Buddha Room at the Spice Route on King St. West – which was an area I’d never trekked to before, but the restaurant was lovely! Upon arriving, everyone was personally introduced to Bolick and we had the opportunity to discuss Spinster over drinks.
Personally, I really enjoyed being able to discuss this book in particular because I have a lot of admiration and respect for its topic. I don’t necessarily want to be single all my life like a “true spinster”, but I don’t want to settle down and have a family. I’d rather be writing. Which is a huge theme in the memoir parts of Spinster.
So it was kind of awesome to hear someone say, for the first time in my life, that it’s great that I know what I want out of life and that I’m able to stick to this desire despite societal norms.
It was a wonderful social evening where I was able to interact not only with Bolick, but fellow book bloggers and writers, which I always love! We always get a chance to connect online, so being able to talk about books in person was great.
Overall it was a great event and I had a lot of fun! All my best goes out to Kate and this amazing book!
As promised in the title of this post, I was able to grab a signed copy of Spinster at the event, which I’d love to hold up for a giveaway! This book meant a lot to me, and when that happens, it means I have to share it with all of you.
If you are interested in entering to win this signed copy of Spinster, check out the giveaway on Rafflecopter or my Facebook page! The giveaway will run from May 3 to May 9, so you have one week to get your entries in!
Unfortunately, due to shipping reasons, I will only be able to accept entries from my Canadian readers. But I am hoping to hold more giveaways this year, so keep an eye out for those and let your Canadian friends know all about this one!
